Army veteran Mason Sharpe is working as a junior deckhand on a Great Lakes freighter, embracing the grueling rhythm of the shipping lanes. The work is hard, but the pay is honest, and Mason enjoys simplicity.

Mason survives the freezing swells, but his close friend and fellow crewman, Evan, is lost to the deep. A shadowy shipping conglomerate is squeezing traumatized families to sign quick hush-money contracts, subtly shifting the blame for the disaster onto the dead crew.

When a corporate whistleblower is silenced right before Mason's eyes, he realizes the sinking was no accident. It was a negligent slaughter, and the Leland’s owners will do whatever it takes to bury the truth along with their ship.
